OUR CHURCH MISSION

Family Promise is an organization that is committed to helping low-income families nationwide to achieve lasting independence. It is done by helping communities mobilize to provide safe shelter, meals, and support services for homeless families and through programs designed to redress the underlying causes of homelessness. St. John’s is participating with the churches of the greater Kutztown community to provide temporary shelter for homeless families. Please contact Dr. Serio to assist with this project. http://www.familypromise.org

Meals on Wheels Beginning in January, 2005, the “Meals-on-Wheels” program, administered and operated by the Berks County Senior Citizens Council, will be located in the St. John’s Center for Spiritual Renewal, 240 West Walnut Street, and will operate daily, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The program will also provide for seniors to eat their meals at the center. Other activities will also take place here during the hours of operation. ADA access has already been provided into the building and further renovations, consistent with our overall plans, will also be made. Karen Blitch is the director of the senior center.

The Elizabeth Project provides mentors and persons willing to teach life skills to the children at the Children’s Home of Reading. Sessions are held on Tuesday evenings.
